latex allergy: Latex is widely used in medical equipment. A small percentage of people have an allergic reaction to latex that is usually very severe. Alternative materials to latex can be used if the patient has a latex allergy.
mast cell: A special white blood cell that releases histamine during an allergic reaction.
MDI (metered dose inhaler): A small canister that releases a puff of medication when pressed. The person breathes in the medication, which goes directly to the lungs. MDIs are often used to deliver asthma medication.
mold: Microscopic plant-life found in damp areas. Mold spores easily become airborne, and are a common cause of allergies.
nasal sprays: Medication inhaled into the nose to directly treat congestion, nasal swelling and other nasal symptoms.
